Hello everybody, Shaun Meyers here to share my thoughts on the upcoming game Slime-San by Fabraz and Headup Games. I received a key from my friends at Headup Games to do this preview article but like all of my reviews/articles this has no effect on my experience or thoughts.
Slime-San is a unique and fast paced 2D platformer that was designed using only 5 colors. The game is set for official release in April 2017 and the version that I was able to play for this article is an early beta version.
Slime-San follows a green slime who’s been eaten by a giant worm. The levels of the game take place inside the various sections of the worm. There are 5 worlds within the worm to play through and each world has 20 levels for you to complete. There’s also 2 bonus levels in the game after you complete all 5 worlds.
The objective in each level is to make your way to the exit sign in the fastest time and the least amount of deaths possible. This is easier than it sounds because the game is quite unforgiving and you’ll likely die numerous times in the process of learning each level. Each level has multiple puzzles for you to get through and they go by pretty quickly due to how fast paced the game is. If you hit an enemy or obstacle, you die and you’ll be transported back to the beginning of the puzzle to try again.
Slime-San has various abilities available to him/her and will allow you to get past many of the game’s obstacles. These abilities include the ability to jump up walls, turn transparent and dash. A controller is definitely recommended for Slime-San as well because the keyboard controls can be pretty unwieldy at times and adds to the challenge. The keyboard controls require a lot more multi-tasking than a controller does due to the layout.
Even though the game is a platformer it also has a great deal of other features to mess with as well. The first area is a shopping district where berries collected in each level can be used to purchase a great deal of items. These items include outfits, new playstyles, sideart, and shaders. There are 6 different shop locations that you can go to and each one has unique features for you to experience. Akiha-worma has an arcade where you can play mini-games, for example.
The game is also built with speed running in mind and you can get trophies by completing levels in the required time. There’s also a leaderboard where you can compete against other players for the top spot. There’s also a bonus boss rush mode for you to experience as well.
Overall, Slime-San is looking to be one feature packed and intense platforming experience. If you have any love for platformers this game should definitely be on your radar. I’m looking forward to seeing what the game will be like when it’s officially released and we’ll be back with a full review for the game in April.
Thanks for taking the time to read the review folks and I’ll be back with my next preview article soon. Also, be sure to subscribe to my channel for future videos! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJQhT81tpgMzpzrivsAxORg
