The Midnight Sanctuary PS4 Review
Hello everybody, Shaun Meyers here to share my thoughts on The Midnight Sanctuary by CAVYHOUSE and Carpe Fulgur.
Disclaimer: I received a copy of the game from the developers for review purposes. Like all of my reviews, this had no effect on my thoughts and experiences with the game.
The Midnight Sanctuary is a visual novel style adventure game that tells the mysterious, and often very strange, tale of a small, isolated town of Christians in Japan.
The main character, Homomoru, is called to the village to help with a project to bring in more tourism to the village. Unbeknownst to her, the town holds a dark past which is slowly revealed over the course of the game’s 5 chapters.
Much of the game is spent visiting various locations throughout the town to talk to people. Talking to the townspeople reveals new information about the overall story.
Since the game is a visual novel, the game’s main focus is on it’s story. There’s no real gameplay elements outside of choosing which places to visit. This may put some people off I imagine but if you’re a fan of visual novels, you know what to expect already.
One thing that makes this game even weirder is it’s unique art style. Many of the villagers are transparent and their bodies reflect the image that’s displayed during loading. This image is quite strange in itself but it’s certainly a unique take on a game’s graphics.
Overall, The Midnight Sanctuary is a strange yet interesting visual novel that should definitely please fans of the “isolated town with weird stuff happening” genre of anime. It’s story was a little too predictable for me but I still enjoyed it nonetheless and will give it my recommendation.
Thanks for taking the time to read this review for The Midnight Sanctuary folks! I’ll be back with my next review soon, until then, happy gaming folks!
