ICEBOX Speedgunner Review
Hello everybody, Shaun Meyers here to share my thoughts on ICEBOX Speedgunner by Games of Edan and Capricorn 76 Pty Ltd. Disclaimer: I received a copy of the game for review purposes. Like all of my reviews, however, this has no effect on my thoughts and experiences with the game.
ICEBOX Speedgunner is a speedrunning style game but with a unique twist, you have to shoot your way through a level to get the fastest time.
The game features a lot of different game modes including a 21 level Campaign, Daily/Monthly challenges, Marathons, various Quick Games and 20 New Game+ levels.
The game’s campaign puts in the role of a prisoner who has been incarcerated in the ICEBOX, a complex prison. With the aid of an unnamed woman you must make your way through treacherous levels in order to escape. The woman also aids you by giving you weapon blueprints, and health kits along the way. Every few levels you’ll acquire a new weapon. Weapons include a pistol, machine gun, shotgun, mini-gun and flamethrower to name a few.
The levels you play become tougher and more intricate the further you progress. There will also be stronger/more plentiful enemies as well as new traps that you’ll need to watch out for as well.
Each level is timed as well so you’re also running against the clock. Running is highly recommended but it also speeds up the game by a lot. If you’re not quick enough you’ll wind up running right off a ledge or right into a plasma vent.
The game features a mechanic that aids you in precise movements and taking down enemies though. You can slow down time for a short duration. While in slow motion you take no damage, you can also move/jump longer distances. So, if you jump off a ledge on accident you can slow down time, jump a few times and land back on the platform so you can continue. You can also use it to take down enemies quickly or avoid traps easily.
Overall, I had quite a bit of fun with ICEBOX Speedgunner. I found it to be pretty addicting but the campaign flew right by due to the relative shortness of the levels. Still, they were a lot of fun to play through and the other game modes proved to be quite fun as well. If you’re into speedrunning games and are looking for something unique then ICEBOX Speedgunner might be a good choice.
Thanks for taking the time to read the review folks. I’ll be back with my next review soon, until then, happy gaming folks!
